的深深的忧郁的文字中，我们获得了坚持的动力。
我们深深地相信，萨根先生的伟大著作不仅对伟大的美国人
民是有益的，而且对当今的中国人民也同样如此，甚至更加重要。
为了表达我们这个小小的群体对萨根先生的敬仰，也为了使更多
的中国读者接近和了解萨根先生的伟大著作，我们准备为我们的
电子杂志筹办一期介绍萨根先生的生平、作品和他伟大的科学成
就的特刊，预定12月20日发行。如果能够得到您的鼓励，我相信
这会极大的鼓舞我们的信心，而且也表达了美国人民对中国人民
的友爱之情。
随信寄上一张唱片，里面录有最优美的中国乐曲之一《梁祝》，

Dear Mrs. Ann Druyan,
We are a small group of people that are trying to promote science in China
via Internet in our off hours. We've established a non-profit website and a
(maybe the only in Chinese) monthly online magazine of popular science.
As computer programmer, biochemistry teacher, surgeon, university student
and science reporter, every of us were set to the path of public science
communication by Mr. Carl Sagan.
As a few of 1.3 billion Chinese, we are highly proud of our motherland. But
we also deeply regret negative sides and defects of the great Chinese culture.
Just like Mr. Sagan had described in his great works The Demon-Haunted
World, specters of pseudo-science, anti-science, superstition and other
confusions are still haunting the country that has a history of 5,000 years, just
when we're writing to you now. Minds of the youth are been poisoned.
Frauds of pseudo-science are making big money from the public.
Modest and quiet are regarded as traditional merits of Chinese. But we are
young. We are educated. We know what's happening. We can't keep silence
when our people are cheated, especially after reading Mr. Sagan's great works.
Although the great works (Sorry, I have to use the phrase again and again) TV
series Cosmos has not been shown in China yet, we've got Chinese version of
Cosmos (the book), The Demon-Haunted World, The Dragons of Eden,
Pale Blue Dot, etc. We're deeply moved by beauty of science and concern for
the future of humankind that Mr. Sagan had revealed. Adhering to our website
and magazine is not easy. It's the greatness of Mr. Sagan that inspired us.
We believe that the great works of Mr. Sagan are as - maybe even more -
beneficial and important to the Chinese people as to the American people. In
order to show our respect and admiration, and to attract more Chinese to the
works of Mr. Sagan, we're planning a special edition of our online magazine.
To be released on December 20, it will focus on Mr. Sagan's life, works and
achievements. If you could kindly give us a little encouragement, it would be
extremely valuable and inspiring for us. We believe that it would also be an
evidence of the friendship between the American people and the Chinese people.
We're sending you a compact disc recorded with one of the best pieces of
Chinese music, The Butterfly Lovers (Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai).
